About the Summit
The Global Summit of the Global Wine Tourism Organization (GWTO) is one of the leading international gatherings dedicated to wine and food tourism. Bringing together public institutions, industry leaders, academics and entrepreneurs, the Summit serves as a global platform to share knowledge, showcase best practices and foster collaboration across destinations.
Held annually in different wine regions around the world, recent editions have taken place in destinations such as Uruguay and China, reinforcing the Summit’s truly international scope and its role in positioning host regions on the global enotourism map.
The event is organized by the Global Wine Tourism Organization, an international network that connects stakeholders from tourism, wine and gastronomy sectors, with the mission of promoting sustainable development, innovation and education in wine tourism. Through its Summits, the GWTO combines congress sessions, B2B meetings and technical visits, creating a unique environment for business, learning and global visibility.
The Alentejo has been selected to host the 2026 Global Summit of the Global Wine Tourism Organization, reinforcing Portugal’s growing international recognition in wine tourism. This achievement follows a competitive bidding process and the region’s distinction as a “Responsible Enotourism Destination”, highlighting its commitment to sustainability, authenticity and community-driven development.
The Summit is part of the official programme of the European Wine City 2026, positioning the Baixo Alentejo at the centre of global attention for wine and food tourism. This strategic alignment strengthens the region’s visibility and creates a unique platform to showcase its heritage, landscapes and innovative practices.
Organised with the support of the Alentejo Regional Tourism Authority, more than a global gathering, the GWTO Global Summit is a catalyst for positioning the Alentejo as a benchmark destination on the world enotourism map, fostering investment, partnerships and long-term socio-economic impact for the region.
